Study Skills for Middle & High School

A student’s success in school is influenced by his or her effective implementation of study skills.

Students excel and become motivated when they have the right tools and techniques. They learn to take responsibility for their learning and become excited about the vast potential available when students implement their unique learning strategies that God has blessed each of us with.

Through an assessment process where students answer questionnaires on various topics (such as: learning styles, brain dominance, dominant intelligences, listening, procrastination, critical reading and more) they acquire a realistic picture of who they are, how they learn, and what they need to do to improve or maintain study habits for success.

Students will learn how to effectively acquire, understand, and comprehend information so they can “study smarter and not harder.” This virtual class will also address specific skills needed for success in on-line virtual classes, self - motivation, overcoming procrastination, using the precious gift of “time” wisely, note taking, concentration & memory methods and strategies to improve test taking skills (including the SAT & ACT).

Testimony

Before I took Mrs. Gartrell's Study Skills class, I honestly thought that I knew how to study. For me studying was making a hand full of flashcards, memorizing them, and then taking the test. But as always, Mrs. Gartrell's class was so much more than what I had envisioned. In fact, this class was pretty personal. We talked about how and why our brains process information the way they do, and what we can do to apply that information depending on the way that our brains receive the information. This strengthened my ability to study tenfold. So, in a nutshell thanks to this class and its amazing teacher I now have the skills to study properly, and further my education.
